Another Tree Spirit in Outback Queensland

Perched in a huge pile of flood debris in the bed of the Maranoa River at the Major Mitchell Camp Site -- north of Mitchell -- I discovered my second tree spirit.

He beckoned me, lured me to his home in an intricately-crafted and thatched castle, created by flood waters.

There is a local belief that when a person dies their spirit is wrapped in a leaf and placed in the bark, crevice or fork of a tree, there to mature into a tree spirit. This is a delightful way of looking at the tree spirits that dwell in forests and other natural places.
