Cane toads: how close are they to Mitchell, Qld?

Alarming news -- that cane toads are now a common sight in our friend Elizabeth's garden -- reached our ears this week.

Iwona, located north of Mitchell on the Forest Vale Road, is only 1 hours drive from Mitchell. Are cane toads on the march down the Maranoa River towards Mitchell? If so, how long will it take them?

Are cane toads any closer to Mitchell than Iwona?

I dread the arrival of the cane toads. How will we ensure the safety of our dogs? How will bird, frog and reptile species fare? Will our gardens be hopping with ugly cane toads?

Will the tranquil waters of the Maranoa River (already suffering the effects of European carp) be polluted by the dreaded cane toad?
